Thailand’s Fiscal Policy Office has made adjustments to the country’s economic growthprojections for 2015. The new figure is 3.9% with export growth at 1.4%. While Thailandhas emerged as a regional automotive production hub, the automotive parts and componentssector has played a significant role in the strong growth of the automotive industry. Ten carmanufacturers, including five existing eco-car producers, applied for Phase 2 of thegovernment’s eco-car program, with expected investment of 139 billion baht for manufacturing1.58 million vehicles. These investments automatically present an opportunity for the Thaiautomotive and parts industry to integrate itself further with the global production strategiesof OEM regarding the mini and small car sectors. The success of the Eco-Car ProgramPhase 2 is expected to lift the country’s automotive production to over three million units
by the end of 2015.
